What X-ray exams do we do?

PRECISE JOINT STABILITY DIAGNOSTICS

Stress X-ray (load-bearing)

using the TELOS device

Precise joint stability diagnostics

What is stress (load-bearing) X-ray?
Stress X-ray is an advanced radiological examination used to assess the stability of the knee and ankle joints.
It uses the TELOS device, which precisely controls the pressure applied to the tested joint, allowing for a detailed evaluation of its structure and potential ligament injuries.

When is stress X-ray recommended?
This test is particularly useful in diagnosing:

  • Ligament injuries of the knee joint (e.g., ACL, MCL, LCL)
  • Sprains and instability of the ankle joint
  • Evaluation of the effects of surgery and rehabilitation
  • Comparative assessment of the stability of both limbs

Preparation for the X-ray examination:

Applies to images of:

  • Lumbar-sacral spine (L-S)
  • Abdominal cavity
  • Pelvis

2 days before the examination:

  • Follow a light diet (avoid bloating vegetables, fruits, and dark bread)
  • Do not consume carbonated drinks
  • Refrain from smoking
  • Take Espumisan — 3 times a day, 2 capsules each

The day before the examination:
In the evening, use a laxative according to your doctor’s recommendations.

How does the examination work?

During the test, the patient is positioned sitting or lying down, and the TELOS device precisely applies force to the selected joint. This allows for obtaining a detailed image showing the degree of joint structure displacement under load.

Advantages of TELOS stress X-ray:

  • Precise assessment of joint stability
  • Safe and controlled pressure application
  • Essential tool in diagnosing ligament injuries
  • Helpful in evaluating treatment effectiveness

About the X-ray examination..

X-ray examination (X-ray) involves the use of X-ray radiation that penetrates tissues to varying degrees. Colloquially called "X-ray", using X radiation. The X-ray examination is a safe examination. Contrary to popular belief, the dose of radiation used during the examination does not endanger your health.
Click to expand X-ray imaging diagnostics is used to detect injuries, both current and past, which allows us to monitor the course of treatment without needing to remove any cast or stabilization. X-ray examinations are also invaluable in the diagnosis of changes in soft tissues and the location of foreign bodies in the body. Our images stand out in quality and precision thanks to the experience of our highly trained staff. Our X-ray images are regarded for their quality not only by the doctors that request them, but also by our patients. At Life Medical Center we perform digital X-ray images of the whole spine (assessment of spinal curvatures, vertebral deformations) and of the whole lower limbs (assessment of limb shortening, joint deformations and limb axis curvature). Our experienced radiologists and medical technicians approach their work with full professionalism and ensure the comfort of each patient during the X-ray exams. Our priority is the safety and satisfaction of each patient.

These exams are non-invasive, allowing for the quick detection of any abnormalities in the examined organ, limb or body part.

FAQ - X-ray (Radiography) – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a chest X-ray and a lung X-ray?

Technically, a chest X-ray and a lung X-ray refer to the same examination; however, the term “chest X-ray” is broader, as it assesses not only the lungs but also the heart, large blood vessels, and bony structures of the chest. On the other hand, “lung X-ray” is commonly used when the primary purpose of the examination is to diagnose lung conditions such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is one of the fundamental tests used in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. It is recommended to consult a doctor, who will determine whether a full chest X-ray is necessary or if a lung X-ray is sufficient.

When is a chest X-ray (lung X-ray) performed?

A chest X-ray is performed to diagnose diseases of the lungs, heart, and chest structures. It is particularly useful in detecting pneumonia, tuberculosis, COPD, and lung cancer. This examination also helps assess the condition of the heart and major blood vessels, for example, in cases of suspected heart failure. It is also used to evaluate chest injuries, such as rib fractures. Doctors often order this test as part of routine monitoring for patients with chronic lung diseases.

How should I prepare for a chest X-ray?

A chest X-ray does not require special preparation, but you should remove any jewelry and clothing with metal elements, as they can interfere with imaging. Patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant, as alternative diagnostic methods may be considered. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing that can be easily removed. In some cases, a doctor may recommend fasting before the test, but this is usually unnecessary. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes and is completely painless.

When is a joint X-ray (e.g., knee, shoulder, hip) performed?

A joint X-ray is most commonly performed to assess injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and sprains. It is also a key examination for diagnosing degenerative joint diseases and inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, it is used to evaluate the effects of strain and repetitive microtrauma, especially in athletes. A joint X-ray is also performed to monitor post-surgical recovery, such as after hip or knee replacement surgery. This imaging test allows for the assessment of cartilage, bones, and joint spaces.

How should I prepare for a hip X-ray?

A hip X-ray does not require complex preparation, but it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing without metal elements. If the examination includes an assessment of pelvic structures, the doctor may suggest a light diet the day before to prevent excessive intestinal gas, which can affect image quality. Patients with metal implants in the hip should inform the doctor before the test. The procedure lasts a few minutes and involves taking several images from different angles.

Why is a spinal X-ray performed?

A spinal X-ray is used in diagnosing back pain, suspected degenerative changes, scoliosis, kyphosis, and post-traumatic vertebral injuries. It is a primary imaging method for assessing spinal injuries and vertebral stability, such as compression fractures. This test is often the first step in diagnostics before more advanced examinations like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) are conducted. A spinal X-ray helps detect abnormalities in vertebral structure and changes indicative of degenerative diseases.

How should I prepare for a spinal X-ray?

Preparation depends on the spinal region being examined. For a lumbar spine X-ray, doctors may recommend avoiding foods that cause bloating a day before the test, and sometimes intestinal cleansing is necessary. Patients should remove all metal elements from clothing and inform the doctor if they are pregnant. The procedure takes a few minutes and may require different body positions for imaging.

What can be detected on a hip X-ray?

A hip X-ray allows for the evaluation of the bony structures of the pelvis, femur, and hip joint. It is essential in diagnosing degenerative conditions, injuries, fractures, and congenital hip joint abnormalities. In patients who have undergone orthopedic surgeries, it helps assess the positioning of implanted prostheses. The test can also reveal inflammatory joint conditions and other abnormalities that may cause chronic hip pain.

Can an X-ray detect degenerative joint changes?

Yes, an X-ray is a primary diagnostic test for suspected degenerative joint changes. It can reveal joint space narrowing, the presence of osteophytes (bone spurs), and changes in bone structure. Based on the results, a doctor can determine the severity of osteoarthritis and recommend appropriate treatment. An X-ray is often the first diagnostic step before more detailed imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

X-rays and pregnancy – Is it safe to have a joint/spinal X-ray during pregnancy?

X-rays are not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, as radiation exposure may negatively affect fetal development. If an X-ray is absolutely necessary, lead shielding is used to minimize radiation exposure. In many cases, alternative imaging methods, such as ultrasound (USG) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which do not use ionizing radiation, may be considered.
